There’s no doubt that openly liking ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is pretty naff, but you’d be lying if you said you haven’t – even just for a tiny second – pictured yourself doing the foxtrot while Bruce Forsyth applauds from the sidelines. Amiright? Well, get ready for what promises to be the ballroom dancing extravaganza of the year – maybe even the century. Inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s brilliant ‘Strictly Ballroom’, the National Trust’s London Project, in collaboration with Hacked Off Films, present this unmissable night as part of London Lates.
Rumba down to the Rivoli Ballroom on Thursday November 28 to learn some ballroom basics, catch some professionals in action and watch a special screening of Luhrmann’s 1992 classic. If that’s not enough to get you waltzing, you can experience Scott and Fran’s last dance in real life, as two dancers re-enact the scene. Keeping in the ballroom dancing spirit there will be a dance-off, where two lucky jivers will be presented with a trophy for their efforts. To finish the night off there will be a ‘Strictly Ballroom’ disco, featuring tracks from the film. So, strap on your dancing shoes and paso doble the night away!
