Get your chequebooks ready for what is set to be a very unusual auction as a diplodocus skeleton named Misty goes up for sale. The skeleton, which measures 17m, was unearthed by the sons of German palaeontologist Raimund Albersdoerfer, while accompanying him on a dig in Wyoming, USA. The bones were painstakingly excavated and sent to Holland to be reassembled, before being shipped to the UK. Its current stay at Summer Place Auctions, West Sussex, will soon be coming to an end as the skeleton is put to auction. It’s thought that the skeleton will be bought by a museum, although it is possible for anybody to bid. With bids estimated to push £600,000, it’s not exactly the cheapest (or smallest) accessory for your home. Both Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are reported to be proud owners of dinosaur skeletons – and if Leo says it’s cool, it must be.
