We used to enjoy baking simply for the pleasure of making something from scratch and sharing it with friends. Except for when it was so delicious that it didn’t make it as far as our friends because we scoffed the lot. And then the BBC brought us ‘The Great British Bake Off’. At first it seemed a gentle celebration of our favourite hobby, and then we felt a greedy, competitive monster stir within our pudding stomachs. We knew we could do better. And we wanted to win.
Now is our chance not only to be a cake champion, but to have your goods JUDGED BY SUE PERKINS! All bakes will be portioned after the competition and sold in aid of Actionaid and the Nordoff Robbins Charity, so in the unlikely event you don’t win, a warm, virtuous glow is your consolation prize. If for some reason you believe there is more to life than cake, you might try browsing the vintage clothes, homewares, accessories and pop-up art gallery. But you’re on your own; we’ll be trying to lick Sue’s face. Ashleigh Arnott
