There’s something about Christmas that really makes people want to go to market. Just like the nursery rhyme where people went ‘to market, to market to buy a penny bun, home again, home again, market is done’. Well, while you won’t be able to buy a loaf of bread for a penny, you’ll definitely be able to get your hands on some delicious fare at Venn Street Christmas Market in Clapham.
The market, which is open every Saturday in December between 10am and 4pm, is offering a wide range of produce, as well as flowers, Christmas wreaths and trees. Gilcombe Farm will be providing free-range, organic meats and poultry, with the special Christmas addition of pheasants, mallards and partridges. There’ll be biodynamic fruit and veg thanks to Perry Court Farm (established in 1953) and cheese from some of Borough markets best cheesemongers. Breads, patisseries and cakes are in safe hands, with stalls by The Old Post Office (London’s first organic bakers), Olivier’s Bakery (French bread specialists) and Ms Cupcakes (Brixton’s vegan bakers). That’s not all. There will be dips by The Big Dipper, hand-made pasta by Pasta di Grazia and a hog roast from Moen & Sons to keep your hunger at bay while you seek out the perfect Christmas tree.
Venn Street Christmas Market is taking place on Clapham Common every Saturday from December 1 -28.
