Countdown to Christmas with the Southbank Centre’s giant advent calendar

Unless they’re buying them for their kids, advent calendars are a thing of the past for most adults. But thanks to the Southbank Centre and IdeasTap, they don’t have to be.

In June this year, the centre ran a competition to design an original Christmas window for their flagship shop, the winner of which was advent calendar enthusiast Ffion Harman. Her design – which fills the seven-metre window until December 31 – features 24 packing crate houses covered in vintage, patterned fabrics. In true advent calendar tradition, the lead up to Christmas will see a door opened every day from December 1. But that’s not all, because behind each door is a small piece of Christmas inspiration in the shape of artworks or gift ideas. So head down to the Southbank Centre to relive that childhood advent calendar excitement. Don’t expect any free chocolate, though.
