For most of us, experiencing the joys of five-star luxury is an extremely rare occurrence. However, it needn’t be that way. The five-star Lanesborough hotel in Knightsbridge is planning a renovation, and between December 9-13, it will auction off more than 3,000 of its grandiose furnishings.
Highlights include a Shimmel Empire Grand piano (guide price: £3,000-£3,500), an oil painting by Simon Casson (£40,000-£45,000), a crystal column chandelier (£5,000-£5,500), and even their bespoke wool carpets, from as little as a few hundred pounds. Their offerings are mostly in the style of the Regency period and with 360° virtual tours available on their website you can be nosey and have a good look yourself. It will all go under the hammer, so here’s your chance to snaffle a posh bargain. Peter Yeung
