You may think that the last thing Dalston needs is another bar. And you may be right. But actually, anyone who’s been on a night out there recently may well suggest otherwise. There’s queues of trendy drunken teens down Kingsland Road for the existing clubs and bars and now that Hackney council is continuing to tighten up licensing laws, it’s increasingly hard to find a nice place to sit down, have a drink and maybe a little chilled dance.
That’s what we hope Dalston’s latest arrival Farr’s School of Dancing will be and it’s set to open tonight (Dec 5) just opposite Dalston Junction station (17-19 Dalston Lane) in an old dance school. We went down yesterday to take a nose around and although it was still a building site, we could see it coming together nicely. The ground floor bar has high ceilings and wooden floors, the bar will be serving craft beer (we are in Hackney, after all) and we’re told that the stylings will be ‘vintage chic’. Sounds familiar. There’ll be bands, live entertainment and a kitchen opening shortly for all your snacking needs. Although it’s only open until 11.30pm, we hope that it’ll fill a gap in the almost saturated Dalston drinking scene.
