Forget subtle social commentary and subversive political statements – these days, it seems London’s street artists are taking their lead from Heat magazine.
It was less than a week ago that – in reference to the ongoing court case involving Nigella Lawson and her ex-husband Charles Saatchi – a giant ‘TEAM NIGELLA’ appeared on a Stoke Newington wall.
Days later, the piece was whitewashed by Hackney council, presumably because all the people taking Instagram snaps of it were holding up traffic. Now, in a new twist in this tale of celebrities and spraypaint, grafters siding with art and advertising mogul Saatchi have now left their mark on the wall, in the form of this rather sinister retort:
What’s next? Kardashian-shaped stencils? An ‘X Factor’ finalists diptych? A giant mural of Joey Essex’s face? Christ, we hope not.
