Be prepared for a pungent whiff in the air when Big Ben bongs midnight on December 31, and it won’t just be that ill-advised Christmas cologne. Thanks to foodie funsters Bompas & Parr (and sponsors Vodafone), the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will feature the world’s first multi-sensory fireworks display. ‘We’re going to actually let people taste the fireworks,’ says Sam Bompas. ‘You’ll see red in the sky, and you’ll smell strawberry!’ Bompas, with fellow foodinista Harry Parr, plans to unleash peach-smelling snow, edible banana confetti and giant bubbles tasting of tangy Spanish oranges. If only they could create similar effects for the rest of the year: chocolate-scented drizzle, perhaps? Rebecca Taylor
