To showcase so-called ‘real food’ (that is, grub that’s been ethically and sustainably produced), the creators of the Southbank Centre’s Real Food Christmas Market organise a few seasonal festivals and weekly produce markets. But this is the biggest. Taking place at the Southbank Centre (normally home to their produce market at weekends), the Christmas Market runs from today (Dec 19) until Sunday Dec 22, from noon until 8pm (except the Sunday, when it closes at 6pm).

Expect to find traditional hand-made hedgerow decorations, wreaths and mistletoe as well as gift ideas (craft kitchen knives, chopping boards). And of course, all manner of festive artisanal foods: hand-made mince pies and Christmas puds, cheeses and locally-made chutneys, bio-dynamic geese and turkeys, cold meats and fine wines. You can even sup on a hot cider or cup of mulled wine while you browse…. and nothing says Christmas like tipsy shopping. Tania Ballantine

You can catch the Real Food Christmas Market at the Southbank Centre, Belvedere Rd, SE1 8XX between December 19 and 22.
