We’ve all been there – you miss a turning, try out a little shortcut and before you know it, you’re in western Africa, dinging your bell at hippos and leopards.
We can only assume that’s how a Boris Bike ended up rolling through the streets of The Gambia this week. The wayward cyclist was spotted by an eagle-eyed Twitter user, who took a crafty snap and presumably proceeded to rub his eyes with his knuckles like a disbelieving cartoon character.
Still, at least someone’s using London’s cycle hire scheme – figures released last week revealed that usage of the bikes has fallen by a third in 2013, compared to the same period last year. So chin-up, Boris – commuters in Barnsbury may not be on board with the scheme, but the good folks of Banjul clearly are.
