Get your glad rags on for these dress-up NYE parties

Posted at 12:15 pm, December 28, 2013 in Arts & Entertainment, Music & Nightlife

You’ve spent all year rocking that same office-casual jeans-and-shirt combo, so why not push the boat out on NYE and unleash your inner costume freak? There’s a whole galaxy of dress-up parties going on, catering for those who just fancy donning a comedy wig to the costume gatekeepers who keep their beloved/outrageous fancy dress box under lock and key – you know who you are.

Gatsby New Year’s Eve Party

‘Gatsby? What Gatsby?’ Ah, the Gatsby that inspired a gazillion ’20s-themed parties in London this year. Quaff buckets of Champers, break out your best Charleston, nibble a canapé and drink in the air of debonair at this sophisticated costume party.

Vintage New Year’s Eve

Get your vintage on at this decade-spanning extravaganza with seven hours of music from seven decades, covering everything from swing to acid jazz. There’ll be authentic period dancing and dining and a terrace to watch the midnight fireworks from. With all this cultural time travelling, just don’t forget what year it is you’re welcoming in.

Hollywoodland NYE

A weathered Stokey warehouse may not be the fist place that comes to mind when hunting for Hollywood glamour to welcome in 2014, but ‘vintage event space’ MC Motors is going full-fat glitz this NYE, with a classic-era Hollywood ball. Dress to impress Marilyn and Humphrey Bogart and enjoy show tunes, pop gems and disco bits, spun by Lou Hayter and The Lovely Jonjo.

The Blitz New Year’s Eve Party

Claw your way through sandbags, blackout curtains and Blitz memorabilia to find the best party the ’40s never had at this fully immersive, retro-tastic event. Shake your stuff to big band classics, feast on wartime snacks and bellow ‘Chocks away!’ at every possible opportunity.

NYE 2013: Studio 54

Recreate the funky fun and frolics (well, the legal ones, anyway) of legendary NYC nightspot Studio 54 this NYE by donning your best disco don/diva garb and shaking it like your catsuited dignity depended on it.
