Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, Felix Baumgartner jumped from really high up in the sky and David Bowie likes to sit in a tin can far above the world… Yeah, we LOVE space. Prepare to get even more starry-eyed at the new ‘Republic of the Moon’ exhibition at the Bargehouse, which will be running daily until February 2.
Artists Liliane Lijn, Leonid Tishkov, Katie Paterson, Agnes Meyer Brandis and We Colonised the Moon have put together an exhibition of personal encounters, DIY space plans, imaginary expeditions and new myths for the next space age for your mind to boggle at, while The Arts Catalyst group will be putting on performances, workshops, music and talks as well as a pop-up moon shop.
If you’re not already spaced out, there will also be the launch of the ‘Occupy the Moon!’ manifesto aiming to declare the Moon a temporary autonomous zone. Head down for the late opening on January 16, if you want to experience the exhibition alongside a full moon. Oh and they promise there will be ‘Live Moon smelling with artists in residence’. No idea either, but sounds amazing. Thanks Mother Nature. Ally Swadling
