After 28 years, it’s all over for HMV’s flagship branch at 150 Oxford Street. Sunday was the last day of trading at the world’s biggest record shop, and now the shutters have come down until the space turns into a whopping great big Sports Direct later this year.
HMV has moved back down Oxford Street to reclaim the site of its first shop (which originally opened in 1921) at number 363. But for anyone who grew up in London in the ’80s, ’90s or ’00s, it’ll never be quite the same as paying a visit to the Oxford Circus megastore.
To mark its passing, here are 10 reasons we’ll miss 150 Oxford Street. RIP, HMV.
