One potato, two potato, three potato – four. Andina is, amazingly, the ninth(!) Peruvian restaurant to open in London – and the eighth to open in the last three years. The first were humble cafés for Peruvian expats, but the new Peruvian wave is cooler than a breeze coming off the Andes. Well-equipped cocktail bars with well-trained bartenders, dishes that use unusual ingredients imported from Peru, flavour combinations seldom seen outside South America, and no panpipe muzak to assail the ears – the Peruvians have really arrived. The latest, and we think possibly the best yet, is Andina in Shoreditch.
