Attention please! We have a very important announcement: London is now officially the most popular city in the world! Yep, we are the best. But then we knew that already.
After a record-breaking number of visitors in 2013, London beat every other city in the world and is now officially more popular than Paris (glad that’s finally official).
It’s predicted that the end of year figures for 2013 will show that London has welcomed over 16 million overseas visitors. That’s a hell of a lot of lost tourists crushing each other on Oxford street and standing on the left-hand side of the escalators.
But what exactly was it about our incredible city that made people travel far and wide to get here? Was it Andy Murray doing the business at Wimbledon? The birth of Prince George? The slightly-less-than-terrible-for-once weather? Whatever it was, foreign visitors loved it and spent £3.37 billion here last summer. Kerching! Keep up the good work London. You’re bloomin’ great.
Not convinced? Here’s a great infographic where Paris and London go head to head.
