Bust out your thongs, throw another shrimp on the barbie and roll out any other Aussie stereotypes you can think of because it’s none other than Australia Day tomorrow! We’ve been having a look for some of the best Oz events happening in London this weekend for both expats and anyone who has done the whole ‘working holiday visa’ thing. Bonza!
1.Dirty Burger’s ‘The Works’, Jan 26
Dirty Burger have created an Australia inspired burger that will only be on sale this Sunday. It’s called ‘The Works’ and it goes something like this: meat patty, bacon, egg, pineapple, beetroot, lettuce, tomato, fried onion and ketchup in a toasted bun. OK, now stop drooling and make sure you’ve got your £6.50 ready.
2. Australia Day party at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes, Jan 26
Celebrate Australia Day with Oz inspired food and drink, live music, Triple J’s Hot 100, costumes, classic Aussie films, a big quiz event, and competitions with prizes like an eight-day sailing trip around Turkey. This party’s got it all covered. For all the details head to bloomsburylive.com
3. Australian comedy special at Clapham Grand, Jan 25
An all-Aussie comedy line-up including 6ft 7 Big Colin Cole, Brisbane’s Benny Boot, Felicity Ward and Pete Jonas and a screening of the comedy film ‘The Castle’ to banish any January blues. Go to claphamgrand.com to buy your tickets
4. Australia Day lunch at Entrée, Jan 26
A proper Australian feast to take you back to the days of sunshine. Entrée’s lunchtime special features raw Kangaroo salad, surf and turf, beetroot ravioli, homemade lamingtons and chocolatey Tim Tams.
5. Beach in Trafalgar Square Jan 25
Looking for sun, surf and sand? Well, the first two may be a little hard to find here in January, but we’ve got the sand covered. Trafalgar Square is being taken over by a big artificial beach sponsored by Fosters and Phil Tufnell will be hosting a game of beach cricket. Only catch is it’s an alcohol-free zone. Strewth!
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!
