The relationship between France and the UK has always been a friendly but awkward one. We think the French never do any work, spend all their money on mistresses and fine wines, and don’t wash often enough. They think their friends across La Manche work too much, spend their money on soon-obsolete gadgets and cyber porn, and don’t wash often enough. But there’s one thing we all agree on: a charming little French bistro is one of life’s great pleasures, and you don’t even have to travel to Paris to find one. Guy Dimond
