Grimaldi Memorial Clown

If you see lots of people dressed as clowns wandering around Dalston today, don’t worry, you didn’t miss the memo to a pop-up clown rave in a secret east London warehouse. February 2 is the date of this year’s Grimaldi Service.

Held on the first Sunday of February, this annual event commemorates the legendary clown Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837). Clowns of all ages, shapes and sizes will pilgrimage from all over the UK dressed in full clown regalia to take part in the service. There’ll be tribute paid to lost colleagues and much-missed friends as well as plenty of LOLs and performances. This cult event gets busier every year so get down early if you want to bag a pew.

The Grimaldi Service takes place today at 3pm at Holy Trinity Church, Beechwood Rd, E8 3DY.
