After all of the hype, plans and controversy surrounding Southbank’s Festival Wing, the project seems to be grinding to a halt. Despite saying that he supports the planning process, Boris Johnson has backed the skaters by insisting that the skate park should stay where it is. Without the Mayor’s backing, the Southbank Centre’s board has decided to withhold its planning application and is on a final search for a new funding model. The project which promises 700 new jobs, a new art space, and free art and culture for two million people every year has just three months to find a solution so it had better get its skates on. We’ll keep you posted with any updates from either side of the dispute as we get them.
