In pictures: how the car shaped London over the last 100 years

Love ’em or loathe ’em, cars have played a massive part in shaping our city. Now a new English Heritage exhibition at the Quadriga Gallery in Wellington Arch in Hyde Park Corner will take you on a journey through how much cars have transformed London’s motorways, bypasses and streets over the last hundred years.

They’ve gathered together a mix  of adverts, photos and cartoons to show how much the increasing number of motor vehicles have changed the city since 1890. One of the key themes is how much London had to adapt to manage its traffic jams. If you think they’re bad now, this could provide a little perspective…
