No Fruit Out of Context: are pizza desserts ever a good idea?

During the 2001 General Election, a Battersea candidate campaigned to stop crimes against food. Pineapple on pizza was just one of many examples TE Barker gave as part of his No Fruit Out of Context campaign.

We don’t think Mr Barker would much enjoy the new menu at the Mayfair Pizza Company, which now features a menu of pizza desserts – using real pizza bases, but topped with tiramisu, strawberries, or folded into chocolate calzone. We tried both the tiramisu pizza covered in banana, grated chocolate and blobs of whipped cream, plus one topped with fresh strawberries, white chocolate and basil. And we’re with Mr Barker on this issue – there should be laws against this sort of thing, and it might be time to revive the campaign.
