If ever there was an excuse to get totally battered on a school night, then Pancake Day is it. But hold on, we’re not talking about drinking – we’re talking about stuffing yourself stupid with pancakes. Shrove Tuesday, which is next week (Mar 6), is the day before Lent when it’s traditional for Christians to whip together everything in the pantry before fasting for 40 days and 40 nights.
Whether you’re planning to fast or not (even non-Christians can see Lent as a second chance to detox after failing miserably at their new year’s resolutions), Pancake Day is something everyone should celebrate. It’s your one opportunity a year to unashamedly scoff slices of fried batter saturated in diabetes-inducing toppings. Shrove Tuesday celebrations around the capital include eating challenges and pancake races, where London’s biggest and best tossers can showcase their talent.
But for those of you hoping to partake in the festivities at home and are unsure how to nail the perfect pancake, check out our fail-safe recipe. It’s all you need for a toss-tastic Pancake Day. Liz Darke
