Bare dough: The Naked Loaf comes to Tooting

The Naked Loaf

Flyers recently popped through doors in the Tooting area offering a vegbox-style bread delivery service. What a nice idea! This new twice-weekly service is brought to you by The Naked Loaf, a new neighbourhood bakery in the Furzedown border between Tooting and Streatham. Intrigued by this and the selection of fine sourdoughs, pains de campagne, spelt loaves, ryes and multigrains on offer, we popped down to try breakfast on the premises. It’s currently little more than a cornershop with a backroom bakery, but expansion next door is in progress – and they even have an alcohol licence, and can serve snacks in the evening. It was all a little homespun and shambolic on our visit, but this is one to know about if you live locally – and the breads are worth a special journey. Guy Dimond
