Itchy feet? You can travel the globe – on the plate, at least – at one-off culinary adventure Around the World in 80 Days. The event is happening this Saturday March 15, and is created by French chef Marie Gonfond, who runs the cutely named Merci Marie café out of a Dalston warehouse.

Inspired by the classic novel, the evening’s menu promises flavours from Japan, Thailand, Turkey, Morocco and Mexico – with all produce sourced locally (we assume this means from the area’s fabulous Turkish shops and outdoor markets, rather than the waving wheatfields of E8).

Finding the café is quite a journey in itself – it’s on the second floor of a building in a car park in a side street off Kingsland Road. You won’t need a passport, but you might need to check the directions on the website.

Tickets cost £35 for three courses, plus a welcome cocktail – but otherwise bring your own booze.

Around The World in 80 Days will be at Merci Marie, Fitzroy House, Abbot Street, E8 3DP. Find out more at merci-marie.com
