March marks the third anniversary of the crisis in Syria and three years in which the international community has yet to find a solution to end the immense suffering of those caught up in the country’s turmoil. Committed to making this the last anniversary of such needless bloodshed, on March 13 2014, a coalition of NGOs including Amnesty International, Oxfam and Hand in Hand for Syria have come together to create a campaign showing solidarity with the Syrian people.
Aiming for a global participation, with candlelit vigils organised across the world in iconic locations such as the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, The Eiffel Tower in Paris and Red Square in Moscow. The event will see an array of iconic buildings lit up in order to emphasise support, with images distributed via social media to hammer home the message.
For those looking to show they still care about the crisis in Syria, the event will convene in Trafalgar Square on March 13 from 6-7pm and will feature a light projection featuring a new Banksy work (above) onto Nelson’s Column as well as talks from celebrity ambassadors who’ve visited the war-torn region.
Accompanying the light show a 3D Soundscape created by acclaimed producer and member of Heaven 17 and Human league, Martyn Ware. The soundscape will use Syrian voices and sounds from Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan to create a highly emotive soundtrack for the event.
