With dilemmas over what to wear, where to go and what to do, first dates can be daunting at the best of times, so a simple invite for a conversation over a cheap-ish cup of coffee is an easy way out of a potentially uncomfortable few hours. Over at Lovestruck – a dating website that aims to bring busy Londoners together – they’ve compiled a list of their six favourite caffeine stations for couples hoping to click over over a cup of coffee.

Kaffeine
‘Just a five-minute walk from Oxford Street, this central London coffee shop serves some of the best coffee in town. There’s also plenty of savoury and sweet treats on offer, so arrive hungry!’

Bea’s of Bloomsbury
‘There’s always a great atmosphere at these coffee shops in Bloomsbury, St Paul’s and Farringdon. The seating is quite open so you’re not seated on top of each other, the coffee is excellent and the cakes are great.’

Monmouth
‘With branches in Covent Garden, Bermondsey and Borough Market, this is one of London’s most famous independent coffee shops – and they’re so popular they often have a queue outside the door. It’s well worth the wait though, as the coffee is as good as it gets.’

Fortnum & Mason
‘It may be a mecca for fancy shopping but there are a couple of amazing coffee venues here. The first in the Parlour Restaurant on the first floor, which serves gastronomic ice creams, authentic Viennese cakes and indulgent hot chocolate and the second is The Fountain on the lower ground floor, which serves classic tea and cakes alongside live music.’

TAP Coffee
‘Formerly known as Tapped and Packed, this coffee chain has branches in Soho, Fitzrovia and Tottenham Court Road. The space is relaxing and there’s always a great atmosphere – and the coffee is top notch.’

Wild & Wood
‘Wood pannelling, church pews and ‘50s music add to the coffee experience here. It’s small though, so creep into a corner with your cuppa and relax.’

For those of you left wanting more following your date, the London Coffee Festival is in town until this Sunday (Apr 6) boasting over 250 artisan providers.

Lovestruck may know romance but we know our coffee! Here’s our guide to London’s best coffee shops.
