Remember when all this was just fields? Us neither. Fortunately, English Heritage, the Museum of London, UCL and the University of Cambridge have got together to take us back to the old school.
Their ‘London Evolution Animation’ video recreates London’s layout at various stages throughout its history, from diddly Roman encampment to enormous twenty-first century metropolis. So journey back to a time when your neighbourhood had more chickens and cottages than Chicken Cottages, and enjoy the Teletext-style easy listening soundtrack, too. (Tip: making the video full-screen and 1080p will make it easier to read!)
