Does your cycle to work feel like a bit of a slog? Try cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Without Lycra. In the 1950s.

‘Come on Eileen’ is a short film telling the remarkable story of Coventry cyclist Eileen Sheridan who became a record breaking professional cyclist.

Eileen, now aged 90, gives a first-hand account of her astonishing career, from early touring club days to her famous rides as a professional, which set a standard for generations of female cyclists to come.

Rarely seen archive footage is combined with dramatic reconstruction to recreate her epic 1954 ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats, a journey that pushed her to her absolute limits.

Bike café Look Mum No Hands! East is hosting the premiere tonight, followed by a Q&A with Eileen. The film will then go the The Yorkshire Festival of Cycling in July to coincide with start of the Tour de France. Jude Brosnan

8pm, Look Mum No Hands! East, 125-7 Mare St, Hackney, E8 3RH.
