So there we were, looking for a body shop that could knock a few dents out of our getaway car, and give it a discreet respray while we were at it. The ‘Primeur’ sign at Barnes Motors might suffer from signwriters’ spelling – not an ‘off-license’ or ‘potato’s’ offence, or even a ‘Kings Arm’s’ – merely an extra ‘u’. But if they do primer and motors, it’s the perfect spot to hide out with a car for a few days.
But what’s this? The demimonde arriving, expectantly wanting their dinner? Could the ‘Primeur’ bit of the name actually be French? Yep, the soi-disant ‘Barnes Motors’ is a decoy: the real French connection is the kitchen at the back, not the sign out the front.
Read our review of Barnes Motors to find out what we made of this ‘underground’ restaurant that doesn’t take bookings, doesn’t have a phone, and doesn’t involve car chases, hideouts or runaway trains.
