At long last we know who will be creating London’s first ever floating villageBoris has announced that developer Carillion Igloo Genesis has won the competition to design and build London’s buoyant community at London’s Royal Docks.

The task will be to transform 15 acres of water into a hub of homes, bars, cafes and restaurants. Occupants of the 50 residential homes being built on the site will have the opportunity to voice their opinions on the design of their future home. Their village will also feature a market square, events space, restaurants, shops and office space. There’s even a chance it may get an ice rink and a floating lido (which seems a bit weird- surely you may as well just swim around the village?!).

Anywho, it’s going to be 100 percent floating, but as the planning application will only be submitted to Newham Council in Spring 2015, we have a sinking feeling this may take a while to materialise.
