Never let it be said that Elephant and Castle ain’t hot. It’s very hot. Around 25 degrees celsius last time we checked. But also it’s cool. Very cool. Wait, we’ve made this confusing.
Point is this: Elephant and Castle’s now home to wicked venues like Paperworks – a new outdoor drinking space-cum-street food yard, opened by Corsica Studios. Running Friday to Sunday throughout August until some unspecified point when the weather shuts them down (at which point they’ll start converting the venue for a winter launch), it features bars stocked with south London craft beers and a pop-up Japanese whisky and Matcha bar from Peckham juice bar Ali Baba, plus food stalls from Kerb.
On the opening night, there were smoked meats on toast from Camden Smokery, Fleischmob’s (delicious) Austrian BBQ and a ‘bastardised Brasilian barbecue’ from VagaBundo. A program of live music and arts events are scheduled in the coming months, including DJs from a number of Corsica Studios’ regular nights. We’re not entirely sure what they are, but they’ll definitely be hot. After all, this is Elephant and Castle.
