Get those buns popping and shed a few pounds while you’re at it with not one, but two upcoming twerk-tastic events.
Whether you’ve been twerking like its hot since the emergence of hip hop’s subculture bounce in the early ’90s (said to be the reason for the provocative dance) or hopped on the bandwagon with Ms Miley Cyrus last year, there’s no denying the current phenomena surrounding the hiney-shaking move. The word was even added to the OED for crying out loud!
So grab a piece of the action (not literally, please) at The Book Club in Shoreditch this Sunday (August 17), where they will be hosting the first of their new monthly twerk-out series. The venue’s ‘Queen of Bounce’ Scarlett O’Hora will be showing dancers of all skill levels how to arch that back and bounce that booty while burning up to 600 calories. Bonus! Classes run 6.30-8pm and cost £8 in advance. 100 Leonard Street, EC2A 4RH.
If you’re not yet ready to show a roomful of strangers your Miley-esque moves, why not watch the pros do it instead? Some seriously sassy ass shaking begins at Scala tomorrow (August 14) as Jump Off TV hosts the 2014 Twerking Championships. The event will feature an abundance of derriéres thrusting to hip hop and R&B, all competing for cash prizes. August 14, 9pm, £12-£25 in advance. Scala, 275 Pentonville Road, King’s Cross, N1 9NL.
