London sure loves a good pop-up these days. Whether you want to trick your tastebuds with a blue cheese ice cream, print your Instagram snaps onto a marshmallow or munch down a meal of pigeon and bugs, this week’s tip-top pop-ups have got it covered.
BLUE CHEESE ICE CREAM
Vanilla schmanilla – why stick to the boring flavours when there are so many tastebud tingling combinations out there. For the more adventurous types out there, get your mouth around one of Jacob’s salty savoury snacks. This pop-up ice cream parlour is scooping out flavours such as ‘blue cheese and crackers’ and ‘a pint of ale and a packet of Twiglets’. That’s right cheese and Marmite lovers, forget cheesecake, forget cheese and biscuits, this could be the future of cheese desserts. Pop along and find out for free. Free, Thu Aug 21 (7pm), Fri Aug 22-Sat Aug 23 (noon), 15 Bateman Street, W1D 3AQ.
COCKTAILS IN A SALON
Abbasynth and Wonky Direction may sound like bad tribute bands but they’re actually funky looking cocktails available at iconic hairdresser Bleach’s new pop-up bar. This celebrity hairdressing hangout is running a ten-week pop-up bar serving up stylish drinks, food from TART and a party schedule which is sure to leave you feeling hairy the next day. Every Thursday-Saturday, Bleach Bar, 428 Kingsland Road, E84AA.
Can bright yellow mustard make us happy? Can a green wilted salad make us feel envious? (Probably, if our eating companion is eating a juicy burger). This palatable pop-up explores how often we focus on colours and how they influence our emotions. Chef Ellen Parr and set designer Alice Hodge are serving up five colourful courses intended to stimulate your senses and Radio 1’s Gemma Cairney will be assisting with her mood-moulding music. Book in advance. £50, Wednesday 20-Saturday 23, 7.30pm, Carousel, 71 Blandford St, W1U 8AB.
There’s no way this place would pass a pest inspection because there are bugs and pigeons everywhere! In celebration of over 85 years of pest control, Rentokil is serving up sweet chilli pigeon burgers, salt and vinegar crickets, Mexican spice mealworms, roasted locusts, scorpion lollipops, chocolate-covered mixed bugs and much more at its wonderfully weird pop-up restaurant. A mystery celeb baker will be baking specially commissioned bug bakes, and Rentokil experts will be there to discuss the food and answer any pesty questions. Pretend you’re a contestant on ‘I’m A Celebrity…’ and get munching those crickets. The food is free, so you’ve got nothing to lose apart from your appetite. Free, Thursday August 21, 11am-3pm, One New Change, EC4M 9AF.
