As ever, there are plenty of amazing club nights and parties taking place across London this weekend. We’ve picked out some highlights, below, that you really shouldn’t miss, but be sure to take a look at the rest of our clubs listings for lots more top party options.
Whisper it to the other members of the hugely popular synth-pop outfit, but it’s possible that Joe Goddard is actually now bigger than Hot Chip itself. Why? Well, he’s had further success with his 2 Bears project, releases on James Murphy’s DFA Records and acclaimed party vehicle Greco-Roman, as well as producing music videos and generally sticking his oar in here, there and everywhere and doing rather well from it. Tonight he gets back to basics with a five-hour DJ set, which will no doubt cover a hell of a lot of territory: expect to hear anything from house to bashment to disco to punk-funk to hip hop to rave to pop.
The monthly Peckham party that promises ‘no bass wobbles, only love, funk and soul’ has been funking up our world a treat ever since it invaded Peckham’s Bussey Building and now it goes one step bigger and better: those brave souls are attempting a 16-hour soul and funk marathon at Greenwich mega-club Studio 338. There’ll be three rooms, four bands and 15 DJs supplying the grooves. SLST founders and family Jazzheadchronic and Perry Louis will be there, along with Jazzie B of Soul II Soul (pictured above), Patrick Forge, Snowboy and many more. Holy funking soul, this’ll be a big’un.
These Sunday parties make full use of Oval Space’s considerable terrace, with a music policy that’s broad and of damn high quality. The sessions start at 2pm and finish at 9pm, meaning that you won’t be (too) ropey if you need to head to work on Monday morning. Berlin techno chief ND_Baumecker leads today’s fun with his stomping sounds, joined by melodic house magician Moomin.
