The sprawling and always exciting London Film Festival comes to town again next month (October 8-19), and we’re thrilled to announce that the Festival Gala in association with Time Out will be none other than Mike Leigh’s hugely-anticipated ‘Mr Turner’. This incredible new film from the British writer-director of ‘Naked’ and ‘Secrets and Lies’ immerses us in the later years of the nineteenth-century London painter JMW Turner, imagining his life as an increasingly radical artist juggling the needs of the establishment and his desire to experiment, and it features a lead performance from Timothy Spall that was thoroughly deserving of the Best Actor prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

You can read our full review of the film here to find out why we’re so excited about the film. Very soon we’ll also have tickets to give away to Time Out readers for the film’s red-carpet Leicester Square premiere on the night of Friday October 10, so keep coming back to Time Out for more news on the London Film Festival – starting with the announcement of the festival’s full programme tomorrow morning, Wednesday September 3.
