Take two: Just Jam returns to the Barbican

Remember Just Jam, the grime event masterminded by photographers Tim and Barry that was meant to happen in March at the Barbican? It got cancelled after the City of London Police raised some very last-minute public order concerns with the venue, which a lot of people felt were unjustified. It was all very odd, culminating in a bizarre, sort-of protest gig organised by Secret Cinema founder Fabien Riggall featuring UK MC Ghetts, which came to an abrupt halt after noise complaints from local residents.

The good news is that Just Jam is coming back to the Barbican for take two on December 13. Some of the original cast of producers and MCs are billed again, including JME, Big Narstie, Preditah and Omar Souleyman (above), plus there are new additions like Mumdance and Novelist, making it an event that stretches far beyond just grime. Fingers crossed there are no eleventh hour dramas this time around.

And if that’s wet your whistle for filthy frequencies, grime crew Jamz are hosting a roller disco at Hackney Wick arts space Shapes on September 20. Just to clarify: yes, it’s a grime roller disco. After strapping on a pair of skates like the ’80s never ended, you can glide/stagger around a rink while soaking up bass and beats from Elijah & Skilliam, Swindle, Royal-T, Flava D and many more. And don’t worry if the thought of taking to eight wheels fills you with horror – you can just chill on the venue’s terrace or head to the BBQ instead.
