A dirty Underground map in a dusty Underground station, no news there right? Wrong! Because there’s way more to this map than first meets the eye.

Half obscured behind a layer of mesh, this old map has been hidden away in the depths of Embankment station for years until recently when it was discovered by a group of workmen.

Don’t be deceived by that familiar orange line, that’s no Overground route. This map pre dates the DLR and the Overground – it still has Stepney East railway station and it marks Heathrow Terminal 4 as ‘under construction’. Yep, this freshly uncovered relic is 30 years old.

Go check it out on the eastbound platform of District/Circle line soon!

Thanks for the heads up stationmasterapp.com. Take a look into the future at what the tube map will look like in 2015.
