Ever seen a grown man reduced to a blubbering mess by the beauty of a barbecue? Us neither, but it’s the sort of thing we imagine happens at Meatopia, a two-day festival of flesh which is back for a second year. It features some of the biggest names in meat, including Hawksmoor, Duck & Waffle, Barbecoa and Dirty Bones, plus music and moonshine.
This year will be themed according to the day – old school and acoustic jams on the Saturday, and more cutting-edge-cool DJ sets from electro-swing to flamenco soundtracking the Sunday.
Pretty much every serious meat purveyor in town will be there, from chef Neil Rankin to guest chefs from Brazil, New York and Texas who will be showing off their skills. Butchery classes, tasting sessions and demos complete two days of finger-licking, flame-grilled fun.
Entry tickets cost £30 per day, but if you don’t want to be left drooling at a distance, you’ll need to pay extra for dishes. Your cholesterol might beg for mercy, but it ain’t over till the hog roast stops rolling. Alex Gerrity
