London sure loves a good pop-up these days. Whether you’re searching for unique dinner suspended above the city, an evening of dressing up in dirndls and lederhosen, or a two-day cocktail crawl, this week’s tip-top pop-ups have got it covered.
MIX YOUR OWN COCKTAILS
Cocktails in the City
Today and tomorrow, more than 20 of London’s bars are getting together to create an almighty booze cruise for all you cocktail fans and budding mixologists. Forget traipsing around racking up tube fares to get your next douse of daquiri, this two-day event means that sampling London’s marvellous martinis and crafty caipirinhas is as easy as one tequila, two tequila, three. As an added bonus there will also be expert mixologists on hand to give you one-to-one tutorials on mixing your own.
£12 (including a cocktail). September 18-19, 6-11pm. The Grand Hall, Camden Centre, Euston Rd, WC1H 9JE.
DON YOUR LEDERHOSEN
Oktoberfest Street Food Night Market
The Urban Food Fest gathers up all manner of German delights at this year’s Oktoberfest. Urban Food Fest founder Jessica Tucker is a bit of a German enthusiast and this Saturday you can revel in her love of all things Bavarian – mainly a load of tasty grub! Dishes being served up will include bratwurst (of course), giant pork burgers, crispy fries with sweet mustard, and pulled pork rolls. As well as traditional spezi, craft beers, cider, and wines, there will also be special Oktoberfest cocktails ‘The Münchner’ and ‘Hallo Fraulein’. To crank up the German factor even further, there will also be traditional music and plenty of girls and guys dressed in dirndls and lederhosen. If you join in with the fancy dress you’ll even get a free cocktail.
Free, Saturday September 20, 5pm-midnight, Euro Car Parks 162-175 Shoreditch High St, E1 6HU.
DINE IN THE SKY
London in the Sky dining
If you’re in search of a restaurant with a view, it doesn’t get much better than this. ‘Events in the Sky’ is running ‘London in the Sky’, a fancy open-air restaurant suspended above Canary Wharf. This one definitely isn’t for anyone with a fear of heights, as the event involves getting strapped in and dining at a large glass table 100 feet above the ground. Chefs come from London’s Michelin-starred restaurants and cook nine services a day, so you can enjoy a refreshing open air breakfast or late night champagne while the sun sets.
£50-£250, September 12-21, various times, Wood Wharf Business Park, 100 Preston’s Rd, E14 9SB.
CELEBRATE LOCAL URBAN PRODUCE
Dinner From Our Back Garden
As part of the Urban Food Fortnight you’ve got the chance to feast on food that’s been locally grown, produced and cooked in Melior Street Garden. Everything used at this alfresco meal comes from local London Bridge-based allotments. The Putting Down Roots gardening project (which cultivates the produce) is run by St Mungo’s Broadway, a charity that supports the homeless and provides opportunities for people to gain skills, qualifications and get back on their feet. So do a good deed by enjoying some fresh food in the garden.
£12.50, Thursday September 18, 6.30pm, Melior Street Garden, Melior St, SE1 3QP.
Plenty of the best pop-ups sell out, so be prepared and book this bad boy in advance…
BOOK A VEGAN FEAST
The Little Cooking Pot Supperclub
The last time we tried to tell you lot about Sarah’s supper club, it had already sold out (which we reckon is a pretty good sign). This foodie event is a vegan’s dream: authentic home-cooked Indian food made with fresh, delicious sounding vegan-friendly ingredients. The next evening is also the launch of the supperclub cook book ‘Mallah’. In addition to sharing dishes like banana masala and black lentil daal with cardamon and ginger, ticket prices include a rum cocktail spiced with tamarind, ginger and dates.
£25 or £35 for a copy of Sarah’s brand spanking new cookbook as well. Oct 2, 7.30-10.30pm, Bodega 50 Cafe, 50 Allen Rd, N16 8RZ.
