Holidays are coming – get your Christmas party booked now

Winter Wonderland, a Christmas funfair in Hyde Park.

Ordinarily we’d never wish to be a part of excessively premature Christmas fever, but the fact is that Christmas parties are getting booked earlier and earlier each year. To nab the best spots, we need to abandon our hopes of an Indian summer, and start thinking forward to tinsel, crackers, and hot mulled wine.

Instead of manically scrambling for the same, usual suspects, we asked Hire Space for recommendations for unique, unusual venues that you probably didn’t even know can be hired out for Christmas. So get ready for shark-infested waters, belly dancers, and a sumptuous Victorian townhouse.

1. The Anthologist, City

‘Part of the Drake and Morgan Collection, The Anthologist is a curious venue packed with charisma. With exposed concrete, upturned wheelbarrows and rustic stools, this is a ‘derelicte’ venue that Derek Zoolander would be proud of.’

2. The Foundling Museum, Bloomsbury

The Foundling Museum

‘The Foundling Museum, filled to the brim with ornate decor, luxury oil paintings and candle-lit tables, is the perfect spot for a decadent throwback to the eighteenth century. It’s just begging to be sprinkled with tinsel.’

3. Pulse and Bankside Vaults, London Bridge

Pulse and Bankside Vaults

‘An astonishing 19,000 sq ft of space under five monumental railway arches, this is one of those venues that you’ll struggle to believe actually exist. Its exposed brickwork makes for a great large scale event without a corporate feel, but this space can also comfortably cater for intimate events as well.’

4. Atlantic Cove at SEA LIFE, Westminster

Atlantic Cove at SEA LIFE

‘With sharks and stingrays looping under your feet and over your head, this immersive aquatic experience promises a memorable party. With space for up to 200 diners, and even a couple of wet-suit divers, this blue wonderland will ensure your event goes swimmingly.’

5. El Cantara, Soho

El Cantara

‘Fire jugglers, belly dancers, snake charmers – this Moroccan extravaganza combines excellent entertainment and eating.’

6. 170 Queens Gate, Kensington

170 Queens Gate

‘This is a gorgeous, Grade II listed Victorian townhouse, which includes a ‘Solar Room’, a beautiful space with a carved ceiling and adjoining garden with French windows. Usually reserved for weddings, this year they are opening their doors to Christmas parties too.’

7. Fourth Floor Studios, Shadwell

Fourth Floor Studios

‘This is one of our more bonkers venues: a loft brimming with bizarre props, including a fully equipped dressing-up room, a Hammond organ, a pool table and a drum kit. But this wooden-floored space, which is flooded with natural light, can be a perfect blank canvas to let your party imagination go wild.’
