Last week we showed you ‘Man vs Tube‘ (a video of James Heptonstall who raced the Circle line and won), which was entertaining, sure. However, this new version is actually trying to get an important message across.

Wheelchair user Antony Ince decided to take on the same challenging 380m sprint from Mansion House to Cannon Street Station.

Spoiler alert: The train takes one minute and 20 seconds but if you watch the video you’ll see Antony speeding along and very nearly reaching Cannon Street platform in just 80 seconds! The only problem is that he encounters a set of stairs just before the platform. The steps prevent him from reaching the train, which leaves without him. It’s a pretty poignant moment, which serves to highlight issues of accessibility on London transport.

It would appear that London is less wheelchair friendly than the Paralympics made out. Only 25 percent of London’s tube stations have step-free access, which is a pretty poor show for such a high-tech city.

Antony and The Free Help Guy created this video to raise awareness of the need for improved wheelchair access. You can read more about the project herebut first watch him racing the tube…
