Scrumptious: there’s a cider takeover coming to Hackney

Cider

Cider’s a big trend this season. And if you’re already over the current fad for fruit-flavoured ciders (raspberry, cherry, mango, even blueberry), and hankering for the real stuff, you’re in luck. Good, strong, dry, English cider, that tastes of fermented apples, is coming to the city with online shop the Cider Box.

The Somerset-born, London-bred fanatics are running monthly cider sessions starting on September 27 at The Old Ship Inn in Hackney, bringing 30 real ciders, perries, apple-based cocktails, champagne ciders and cider brandies to the Victorian pub. There’ll also be live music, DJs and cider versus cheese taste-offs with cheesemongers O Toma O Morte (‘cheese or death’). Join us in raising a glass to the fruit of the Garden of Eden.

The Old Ship Inn, Hackney, E8 1EN. Saturday September 27, then on the last Saturday of every month. 1pm-1am. Free or £20 for a seat at Cider vs Cheese taste-off.
