Milk thistle at the ready: London Cocktail Week is coming. A whole week dedicated to plying you with as many ‘sophisticated’ drinks as humanly possible, it’s not for the faint-livered.
Throughout the week, there’ll be endless pop-up bars, tastings, masterclasses and ‘events’ (read: spirit-fuelled parties), most of which are free (though a few need you to pre-register). Then there are ‘cocktail tours’. Basically posh bar crawls, these involve buying a £10 wristband then visiting as many participating bars as you’re keen on over the course of the week, and trying one of their bespoke LCW cocktails for a mere £4. Wristbands also get you access to special offers and a dedicated ‘sampling’ area, so if you’re planning to whet your whistle with any measure of enthusiasm, it’s probably worth getting one. Just don’t drink on an empty stomach, people: no-one wants to spend Saturday night in the back of an ambulance.
London Cocktail Week is October 6-12. For more information or to buy wristbands (which can also be bought from three ‘hubs’, in Covent Garden, Seven Dials, Chelsea and Spitalfields, during LCW itself), visit londoncocktailweek.com
