So, you like rum, and you want to be famous. Well, not exactly famous, but part of something BIG. Now’s your chance. As a cheeky little ‘pre-event’, the folks at Rumfest are hosting a Guinness World Record attempt for the world’s largest ever rum tasting, on Thursday October 9. To buy a ticket (for which you’ll get rum AND glory), head to rumfest.co.uk.
But if you can’t make it to the world record attempt, don’t fret – the main event is Rumfest itself. Taking place October 11-12, it’s a massive showcase of all things rum, which this year will have a particular emphasis on premium brands. Visitors will be able to taste rums from all over the world, from household names (Havana Club, Mount Gay, Bacardi) to some of the industry’s lesser-known gems (Abelha, Pusser’s, Duppy Share). On top of that, you can learn more about so-called ‘rum culture’, with masterclasses for novices and aficionados alike. And, even though it’s in a big exhibition space, there’ll be souk dancers and live bands in the last hour every day (which they’re calling the ‘party hour finale’), to lift any flagging (not flagon – that would be ridiculous) spirits.
Tickets for the event, which takes place in Earls Court’s ILEC Centre, cost £49.95 and can also be bought from rumfest.co.uk.
