A researcher from Queen Mary University is launching a new app designed to recognise and identify birdsong. (It’s a bit like Shazam but for different species of birds rather than shit songs in loud bars.)

Scientist Dan and his business partner Florence are crowd funding their project on Kickstarter. They’ve currently raised £3,433  – with 33 days left to reach their £50,000 target – and already have the backing of Stephen Fry.

In a promotional video, Florence says: ‘Our goal is to bring people closer to the natural world through technology. We want to get people outdoors, appreciating the wildlife on their doorstep, because we believe that this will make them want to protect it for generations to come. ‘

Head here to back the project.
