IMPORTANT: It’s not a good idea to pop down to Oxford Street to pick up some bits tonight.

The annual Christmas lights switch-on is happening this evening at 6.15pm, with Cheryl (Cole) Fernandez-Versini, Jess Glynne and the cast of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ reported to be taking part in the festive ceremony, which starts at 5pm. (Also Manchester band Rixton… yup, we hadn’t heard of them either.)

The iconic shopping street’s going to be lit up with 1,778 glowing white orbs from tonight until January 4. It’s the fifty-fifth year it’s been decked out in festive sparkle.
