New York artists Dan Colen and Kalup Linzy are using a billboard on London Bridge to debut their latest work. Titled ‘Sweet Liberty’, the giant photograph shows the duo naked and kissing on a New York rooftop.
The installation is positioned on the corner of Duke Street Hill so that the waterways of NYC shown in the photo can merge with the River Thames.
Dan and Kalup explain: ‘As the Hudson and East Rivers meet behind us around the foot of the Statue of Liberty, we are stripped naked; both familiar as ourselves but also unfamiliar. Duality and union are stripped-down and simultaneous in the work, which overthrows now familiar and ultimately normative questions of identity politics in favour of romance.’
The work is on display until November 20.
