If you’re feeling the pinch but still want to enjoy some great live music this week, you’re in luck: these five gigs look great and won’t have you coming up with awkward excuses for another overdraft extension.

Central

East India Youth at Heaven

The Mercury-nominated London producer plays from his album ‘Total Strife Forever’, mixing Tim Hecker-esque electronic soundscapes with romantic pop. His intense live show is well worth catching. Thursday November 13. £8.50.

East

Jagaara at The Old Blue Last

Three sisters who mix up the misty, epic pop of ’80s Fleetwood Mac with synthy R&B atmospherics – no, it’s not Haim but tipped north London trio Jagaara. Tuesday November 11. Free.

North

Dizraeli & The Small Gods at Jazz Cafe

MC Dizraeli lays down his flow over Afro-grooves and Latin rhythms, pumped out by the rest of his Brighton hip hop outfit. Thursday November 13. £9.50 adv.

South

You’re Only Young Once at The Windmill Brixton

A rare opportunity to pretend you’re Neil Young: this brilliantly titled tribute night includes live band karaoke, a covers outfit and guest acts including Dead Flowers weaving ol’ Neil’s hits into their sets. Saturday November 15. £6.

West

Kate Williams at 606 Club

The jazz pianist and singer is joined by some talented friends to launch her new album ‘Atlas and Vulcana’, which includes music for trio, quartet and septet. Thursday November 13. £10.
