Funnyman, zoo keeper and artist – Noel Fielding is a man of many talents! But what’s going on inside the head of this crazy-haired maverick? He talks us through some of his paintings…

Tiger with Chlamydia raises

‘TIGER WITH CHLAMYDIA RAISES MAN OFF THE ROOF WITH ARROW COCK’
‘This painting was a sketch for an idea in one of my telly shows: a tiger with an arrow for a penis that points at you and gives you diseases. The diseases were represented visually by extreme costume changes.’

Tears of a King

‘TEARS OF A KING’
‘The idea of a crying Elvis appealed to me. He must have been sensitive. I like the idea of him not being able to stop crying, maybe filling up rooms with his tears.’

Noel Fielding Art Exhibition Masion Bertaux

‘FIFTEEN MINUTES BEFORE IT HAPPENED’
‘This is the first in a series of night-time paintings – strangers at the side of the road, up to no good. That moment in time before something terrible happens. An accident or an attack. Then we remember hours later the two strangers we saw at the side of the road.’

Traditional Ghost vs Zappa

‘TRADITIONAL GHOST VS ZAPPA GHOST’
‘I love the image of the traditional ghost: a white sheet with eyeholes, like a Pac-Man ghost. The Zappa ghost was a variation on this theme. Frank Zappa is a big part of my life, creatively and personally. I know the Zappa family and love them. It’s a tribute, really.’
